Marion Reaches 10,000 Passengers

January 2, 2013

Accomplishment entitles airport to significant federal grant funding

Cape Air boarded its 10,000th passenger of the year at the Williamson County Regional Airport on Christmas Day, entitling the airport to $1 million in federal grant monies that can be used for capital infrastructure and safety projects.  These funds are made available to commercial service airports enplaning 10,000 passengers or more each year.

"10,000 enplanements per year is an important number in the federal funding equation for capital improvement projects at our airport, but it is most significant in that it represents the continuing success that Cape Air is having with its service in our market,” said Doug Kimmel, Airport Manager at the Williamson County Regional Airport.  Cape Air has grown steadily at Williamson County Regional Airport since entering the market in November 2009.  Year to date enplanements rose 34% between 2010 and 2011 and are poised to rise another 7% in 2012.  Next year is also off to a strong start—advance bookings are up 11% compared with last year.

“We’ve been very pleased with our performance in the market to date,” said Andrew Bonney, Vice President of Planning at Cape Air.  “We’re delighted that our performance this year has garnered such a positive benefit for the airport.”

Cape Air offers daily service to St. Louis from the Williamson County Regional Airport.  Tickets can be purchased by visiting, by calling 1-800-CapeAir, by visiting Cape Air’s downtown ticket office at 202A N. Market in Marion or by calling your local travel agent.
