Cape Air Steps Up to Fill Crucial Hyannis and Nantucket Cargo Needs

September 15, 2020

Cape Air will begin to offer cargo services between Hyannis and Nantucket in order to fill the unexpected void created by the loss of the community’s prior program, which ceased operations this Spring as businesses began to feel the effects of COVID-19. Cape Air, Barnstable Municipal Airport, Nantucket Memorial Airport, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), came together quickly to produce the necessary logistical arrangements and approvals needed to reintroduce critical cargo options.

“With the sudden absence of cargo services, our internal teams got to work quickly to develop a plan that would enable us to easily and efficiently reconnect the communities of Hyannis and Nantucket,” said Linda Markham, President of Cape Air.  “Especially during the current pandemic climate, it’s become more important than ever to have convenient, consistent cargo service between Hyannis and Nantucket, particularly for the business, medical and service industries. As a company committed to taking care of the communities we serve, we made this program a top priority.”

“The unexpected loss of cargo services at the Airport impacted our entire community; thank you to the efforts of Cape Air we can bring such services back providing safe and efficient cargo transport alternatives to the region” said Katie Servis, Airport Manager at Barnstable Airport.

The sudden cessation of services came at a great loss to the general public, customers and community. In a time where even the littlest comforts can make the largest difference, Cape Air and its airport partners look forward to bringing back some normalcy for its Cape and islands residents.

“We are delighted to partner with Cape Air to link the Nantucket and Cape Cod business communities,” added Noah Karberg, Assistant Airport Manager at Nantucket Memorial Airport, “…especially to keep Nantucket supplied with mainland Chinese food.”

Cape Air’s cargo program will begin on September 15, 2020 with easy access at the Cape Air ticket counter and dedicated parking for carriers established at the terminal. To learn more, visit https://flights.capeair.com/en/hyannis-cargo
