Cape Air Reaches Important Benchmark for Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois

December 27, 2017

Cape Air and Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois reached their 2017 goal of 10,000 enplanements on Tuesday, December 26. The benchmark is a top priority for both the airline and the airport. In achieving this objective, Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois will receive $1 million in funding from the Federal Aviation Administration to cover eligible airport improvements. The FAA entitlements are entirely user-funded with no cost to taxpayers.

"Cape Air's ability to generate more passenger traffic and reach this important milestone is critical for us to be eligible for the necessary amount of federal airport improvement funds that in turn go toward our capital improvement projects each year.  These projects, such as recent runway paving and lighting projects along with the new airline terminal in turn provide safe and efficient facilities for Cape Air and their passengers.  It's a wonderful partnership and a win-win scenario where funds generated by users of the system go back as investments to that system," said Doug Kimmel, Airport Manager of Veterans Airport.

“We are thrilled to announce that Cape Air has reached our goal of 10,000 enplanements for 2017 at Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois. All of us at Cape Air celebrate this achievement alongside our partners at Veterans Airport and with our friends in the community,” said Linda Markham, President of Cape Air. “Thank you to our passengers for another successful year in Williamson County.”

Cape Air operates daily, year-round flights between Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois and St. Louis- Lambert International Airport with fares starting at $29 each way. With Cape Air’s free inter-terminal shuttle in St. Louis, passengers enjoy seamless connections to their terminals without security rescreening.
