Cape Air Adds Additional Flights at Saranac Lake

June 29, 2012

Cape Air, the Essential Air Service (EAS) provider serving the Adirondack Regional Airport, has added two extra summer flights, for a grand total of five daily round-trips to Boston. Cape Air’s current EAS subsidy covers three daily flights. Due to the increase in demand, Cape Air will be augmenting their existing schedule from June 29 through September 9, 2012 with the additional flights, which are not subsidized by the government. The Essential Air Service is a government funded program that brings air service to hard-to-reach communities.

Andrew Bonney, VP of Planning for Cape Air said, “Strong community support in the Adirondacks has enabled Cape Air's service to grow, and be sustainable - far beyond the minimum service pattern supported by the US DOT.  We are delighted to increase our summer service pattern to five daily round trips, and look forward to continued growth in ridership.”

“We're really excited about having these extra flights available and we look forward to seeing Cape Air continue to grow out at the airport,” adds Corey Hurwitch, Adirondack Regional Airport Manager.

Cape Air started service at the Adirondack Regional Airport in February of 2008, and has since seen a strong increase in the amount of passenger traffic. Last year, Cape Air carried over 11,500 passengers in and out of the airport.
