CAPE AIR RESELECTED AS AIR SERVICE PROVIDER FOR HANCOCK COUNTY/BAR HARBOR AIRPORT

April 26, 2016

April 26, 2016- Bar Harbor, Maine The US Department of Transportation has awarded an additional four year contract to Cape Air to continue providing commercial air service from Boston to Bar Harbor/Knox County Airport. The contract extension begins July 1, 2016 and will run through June 30, 2020.

The three daily round trips will continue through May 26th, 2016. During the summer season, Cape Air will operate one daily round-trip, with the triple-daily service resuming on September 6th, 2016. During the summer season Peninsula Airways (PenAir) will also operate service twice-daily flights between Bar Harbor and Boston.

“We are excited to continue our positive relationship with the Bar Harbor Airport and community,” said Cape Air President, Linda Markham. “We have ensured that our Bar Harbor flight schedule allows for easy connections with major carriers serving Boston, and our convenient ticket and baggage agreements with almost all of the major carriers mean you can book your entire trip on one itinerary and check your bags through to your final destination. This service has been extremely successful for Bar Harbor-area residents as well as travelers from afar wanting to visit Bar Harbor via Boston.”

Over the past four years the Knox County Airport and Cape Air have developed a strong partnership that has resulted in strong ridership numbers to Boston Logan International Airport and beyond. The City and Cape Air plan to continue to strengthen their partnership and community relations over the next four years.

“We are very happy that Cape Air has been re-selected by the USDOT to continue to provide essential air service to Hancock County and the surrounding area with daily service to Boston.  Cape Air continues to offer outstanding value and service to our community and works with us as a partner to ensure that the very seasonal demand pattern that exists here is properly served,” said Brad Madeira, Bar Harbor Airport Manager.  “I am proud of what we have accomplished with Cape Air, and I am looking forward to working with the entire Cape Air team for another four years.”
