Aircraft Fuel Efficiency
Air transportation service is an energy intensive business. Cape Air is committed to reducing the fuel burn in our aircraft through changes in technology and flight procedures.
- New tuned injector fuel nozzles and Shadin Digiflo fuel gauges installed in all Cessna 402 aircraft are expected to reduce Cape Air’s fuel burn by 4% overall. The fuel savings will reduce carbon output by 1,003 tons per year, the equivalent of taking 188 cars off the road.
- GPS landing instrumentation and flight procedures enable use of next generation power and fuel flow procedures on Cape Air aircraft serving airports with access to the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS). The GPS instrumentation allows aircraft to make precision approaches, which has reduced fuel burn by as much as 9% on select routes. Cape Air is working with FAA to evaluate this technology application and expand its use.
