We're your wings to Mayaguez.
Located on the west coast of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez is home to historical sites, nature and wildlife preserves, and several colleges and universities. Cape Air offers four flights from San Juan to Mayaguez daily.
Hotels: Downtown Mayaguez has both budget friendly hotels and luxury resorts with casinos. Vacation rentals are surprisingly affordable and offer extra privacy and space for families or large groups. The nearby municipalities of Rincón and Cabo Rojo have beautiful beachside resorts and guesthouses.
Activities: Plaza Colón is the main square in Mayaguez where you can find a statue of Christopher Columbus. You will often find vendors selling art, jewelry and gifts, but if you’re not up for shopping, Plaza Colón is also a great place for a walk or a quick game of dominos. During the holidays, the square is filled with lights and decorations, making it a romantic destination in the winter. Just down the street, the historical Yaguez Theater is still in use and is a great spot to learn about culture and history in Mayaguez.
Natural sights: Farther inland you will find the Mayaguez Zoo. The only zoo in Puerto Rico, it includes a butterfly park and an aviary full of tropical birds. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so you will want to plan accordingly. Nature lovers will also enjoy the Tropical Agriculture Research Station. Pick up a map and take a self-guided tour of the gardens to learn about the rare trees and flowers that surround you.
